Burleson is named for Rufus C. Burleson, President of Baylor University at Waco. It is considered a suburb of Fort Worth and is located in the rapidly growing suburban expanse just south of the city. The annual Christianity-related See You at the Pole prayer event originated in Burleson. Burleson is the hometown of singer, songwriter, actress, and American Idol season 1 winner Kelly Clarkson, American volleyball player and three-time Olympian Stacy Sykora, and singer Jonathan Cook and drummer Kyle Burns of the band Forever the Sickest Kids.
